Being a photographer in Colorado comes with some major perks. The one that sticks out most
(aside from the incredible clients that I am able to meet in this area) is the natural landscape
that Grand Junction offers. While I do offer in studio sessions, my heart just might skip a beat
when a client asks to hold their session outside.
I’ve photographed clients embracing each other between reeds and tall grasses, holding their
child’s hand while they splash in a stream, and one of my favorites – tucked away beneath the
trees on the mountainside.
I have to share some photos with you from my latest Colorado mountain maternity session,
because it was just dreamy. The mama-to-be was absolutely stunning in both her plum and olive
gowns that showed brilliantly against the white snow. Looking at the photos, you wouldn’t
believe that we were all completely frozen by the end of the session, lol.
Here are three tips for anyone interested in a Colorado mountain maternity session:
- Prepare for the weather. Yes, it sounds obvious… but if the weatherman says it might
snow, then you better be ready for snow! So even if you plan on wearing a gorgeous
maternity gown, have a nice warm coat ready on the side for the moments we aren’t
shooting. Trust me. You don’t want blue lips and goosebumps in your photos. 😉 - Choose clothing that will work with the natural colors of the mountains. If you like
contrast, try pops of mustard, plum, or vibrant blues. If you’d prefer to blend in and look
natural, work with olive greens or earthy neutrals. Your clothing choices have a huge
impact on the final images from any photography session, but they’ll be amplified during
a Colorado mountain maternity session. I typically like to avoid busy prints to allow the
peace of the landscape to seep into your images.
For my Colorado mountain maternity session mamas, don’t forget about my gown
collection! If you don’t already own something that you love and want to wear during
your photos, I just might have something on hand that you can use! I’ve shared a few
photos of my collection on Facebook and have more that I can send you. - Wear comfortable shoes. Ladies, if you’re wearing a full length gown – you’re in luck!
You can hide anything under there. Wear something that will help keep your feet warm,
dry, and comfortable as we make our way through each of our photography stops.
Gentlemen, we can’t exactly hide your feet in all of our shots – but you’ll still want to wear
a comfortable shoe that can get you around the mountain terrain without slipping or
giving you a gnarly blister.
