Newborns

welcome to

the studio

Because they're only this little once.

Those tiny fingers. The sleepy stretches. The way your brand-new baby curls perfectly against your chest.

It all changes so incredibly fast.

For the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of photographing more than 600 newborns—and as a mom of four myself, I know just how quickly this season becomes a memory.

My newborn sessions are designed to give you more than beautiful photographs. They're created to give you a calm, completely taken-care-of experience while preserving every tiny detail you never want to forget.

You bring your baby. I'll take care of the rest.

Looking for

your perfect photographer?

You Bring the Baby. I'll Take Care of the Rest.

Walking into a photography studio with a brand-new baby shouldn't feel like one more thing you have to prepare for.

Before you ever arrive, your session will be thoughtfully planned and styled around the colors and looks you love.

My Grand Junction newborn studio is fully stocked with beautiful wraps, outfits, bonnets, headbands, blankets, baskets, props and everything we need to create your baby's session.

And if we're photographing the whole family, I'll help with that too. You'll have access to my client closet with carefully selected wardrobe options for moms and siblings, and I'll help coordinate everyone so your portraits feel beautiful and cohesive.

During your session, settle into the sitting area, grab a snack or drink, and relax just a few feet away while I work with your baby.

No shopping for props. No wondering what everyone should wear. No trying to figure it all out yourself.

You bring your baby.

I'll take care of the rest.

Your Baby Is in Experienced Hands

I know how much trust it takes to hand your brand-new baby to someone you've just met.

Beautiful photographs matter—but your baby's safety and comfort will always come first.

I've spent the past 10 years specializing in newborn photography and have photographed more than 600 newborns. I've completed up-to-date newborn photography safety education and have years of hands-on experience safely posing, wrapping, soothing and photographing brand-new babies.

I'm also a mom of four, so I understand that babies don't always follow the plan.

If your baby needs to eat, we stop.

If they need to be snuggled, we snuggle.

If they need a little extra time to settle, that's okay too.

Your session isn't about rushing your baby through a list of poses.

We follow their lead.

This Is Your Time to Relax

While I'm working with your baby, you're welcome to settle into our comfortable sitting area just a few feet away.

Grab a snack or cold drink. Watch something. Close your eyes for a few minutes.

Seriously.

You've just had a baby.

I've got this.

Your session includes plenty of time for feeding, changing and soothing, which is why full newborn sessions typically last around 2–3 hours.

There's no expectation that your baby needs to "perform" for the camera.

We simply give them the time they need.

A Session Created Just for Your Baby

No two newborn sessions need to look exactly alike.

Once you're booked, we'll plan the colors and styling you love so your baby's photographs feel like you.

Soft and neutral. Warm and earthy. Girly and delicate. Simple and timeless.

Or maybe you love color.

We'll create something beautiful together.

With a studio full of carefully curated newborn props, wraps, outfits and accessories, we'll have everything we need to create a session completely unique to your baby.

Don't Forget the Family

You may be booking because you want beautiful photographs of your baby—but some of the images that become the most meaningful are often the ones you're in too.

The way your baby fits against your chest.

Their tiny hand wrapped around your finger.

The first photograph of all of you together.

And the look on a brand-new big brother or sister's face.

These aren't just photographs of what your baby looked like.

They're photographs of what your family felt like when they first arrived.

And someday, your baby will get to see just how completely loved they were from the very beginning.

When Should I Book?

The best time to reserve your newborn session is while you're still pregnant, ideally sometime after 20 weeks.

Of course, babies aren't particularly interested in our calendars.

When you reserve your newborn session, you're reserving a place on my schedule around your due date. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we'll adjust your session accordingly.

I intentionally accept a limited number of newborns each month, so I can accommodate those unpredictable arrival dates.

Newborns are typically photographed during their first few weeks of life, when they're still sleepy, curly, and comfortable in those beautiful newborn poses.

Baby already here?

Don't panic.

I occasionally have last-minute availability. Reach out and let me know your baby's age, and we'll determine the best session option for you.

Your Newborn Investment

Newborn collections begin at $450. After your session, you'll have the opportunity to view your photographs before choosing the collection that's right for you.

These days are short. Your photographs shouldn't be.

Newborn Photography FAQs & Common Questions

As you prepare for your baby's arrival, we want to answer all your questions about your upcoming Newborn Photography Session. Here are the most frequently asked questions we hear at Ablaze Photography:

Are you up to date on the Whooping Cough Vaccine?

  • Yes! I'm up to date on Tdap and Flu.
  • Your baby's comfort and safety are my #1 priority!

What is the best age to photograph my new baby?

  • I prefer to photograph newborns between 5-20 days old, when they are still in that super sleepy, squishy, curly stage. That said, we can photograph your baby a bit older, but the best time is in the first week.

Do you have a studio?

  • Yes! I have a professional Newborn Photography Studio located right in the heart of Grand Junction, Colorado, at 411 1/2 Main St.
  • Newborn Photography Studio vs. In-Home Sessions- In order to provide the consistent look you see on my website and in my portfolio, Newborn sessions are held in my studio. Everything is fully prepared before you arrive. You can enjoy some much-needed rest while I photograph your baby just feet away.

Do you have all the props?

  • Yes! I have everything you see on my website and loads more. My studio has a glamorous collection of high-quality, handmade headbands, bonnets, outfits, and wraps. I am consistently updating and purchasing new goodies! Your baby's session will be fully styled based on your color preferences; all you have to bring is the baby!

Do you offer sessions on the weekends?

  • No, the Newborn Photography Studio is open by appointment only Monday - Friday 10:00-2:00

How far in advance should I book?

  • It's best to book your session whilst you're still pregnant, usually after 20 weeks gestation.

What if my baby comes early or after my due date?

  • By booking your session with Ablaze Photography (paying your deposit), your new baby has priority on my schedule. That means if your baby comes early or late, they're guaranteed a spot on my calendar. My Newborn Sessions are limited each month to accommodate the various arrival dates.

My baby is already here! Can I still do a Newborn Session?

  • Occasionally, I do have last-minute availability. Please ask if your baby is a bit older, as that may determine whether you want a newborn or baby session.

How long does a Newborn Session take?

  • Full Newborn Sessions take 2-3 hours; this includes extra wiggle room for feeding and soothing breaks. I firmly believe anything over 3 hours is just too long, too long for the baby and too long for exhausted parents. I'll help you prepare your little one so we can get the very best of baby for the session.

How do I prepare for my session?

  • Once you've booked your session with Ablaze Photography, you'll receive a link via email with tips on how to prepare for a smooth Newborn Session.
