Newborn Sessions

welcome to

the studio

Tiny details. Sleepy snuggles. A season that goes by far too quickly.

There is nothing quite like those first few weeks with your baby.

The tiny fingers. The curled-up legs. The little lips. The way they fit perfectly against your chest.

And somehow, while you're right in the middle of sleepless nights, feedings, and figuring out this brand-new little person, they begin changing almost overnight.

That's why I love newborn photography so much.

For the last 10 years, I've had the incredible privilege of photographing hundreds of brand-new babies—and as a mom of four myself, I know just how quickly this season becomes a memory.

My job is to make sure you have a beautiful piece of it forever.

Looking for

your perfect photographer?

You Bring the Baby. I'll Take Care of the Rest.

Walking into a photography studio with a brand-new baby shouldn't feel stressful.

My private newborn studio in the heart of Grand Junction has been thoughtfully designed to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible.

Before you ever arrive, I'll have your session planned and styled based on the colors and looks you love.

The wraps? They're here.

The tiny outfits? Here.

Bonnets, headbands, buckets, baskets, blankets and props? I've got those too.

And if we're photographing the whole family, I'll help with your wardrobe as well.

You'll even have access to my client closet with carefully selected pieces that photograph beautifully with your new baby.

You really can just bring me the baby.

Your Baby Is in Experienced Hands

I know how big of a deal it is to hand your brand-new baby to someone you've just met.

Beautiful photographs matter—but your baby's safety matters infinitely more.

I've spent the last 10 years specializing in newborn photography and have photographed more than 600 newborns. I've completed up-to-date newborn photography safety education and have extensive experience safely posing, wrapping, soothing and handling brand-new babies.

And I'm also a mom of four.

So when your baby needs to eat, we stop.

When they need to be snuggled, we snuggle.

When they need a little extra time to settle, that's okay too.

Newborn sessions are never about rushing your baby through a list of poses.

We follow their lead.

This Is Your Time to Relax

While I'm working with your baby, you're welcome to settle into our comfortable sitting area just a few feet away.

Grab a snack or cold drink. Watch something. Close your eyes for a few minutes.

Seriously.

You've just had a baby.

I've got this.

Your session includes plenty of time for feeding, changing and soothing, which is why full newborn sessions typically last around 2–3 hours.

There's no expectation that your baby needs to "perform" for the camera.

We simply give them the time they need.

A Session Created Just for Your Baby

No two newborn sessions need to look exactly alike.

Once you're booked, we'll begin planning the colors and styling you love so that your baby's photographs feel like you.

Soft and neutral.

Warm and earthy.

Girly and delicate.

Simple and timeless.

Or maybe you love color.

We'll create something beautiful together.

My studio is filled with a carefully curated collection of professional newborn props, wraps, outfits, bonnets, headbands and accessories, giving us plenty of options to make your session completely your own.

Don't Forget the Family

You may be booking because you want beautiful photographs of your baby—but some of the images that become the most meaningful are often the ones you're in too.

The way your baby fits against your chest.

Their tiny hand wrapped around your finger.

The first photograph of all of you together.

And the look on a brand-new big brother or sister's face.

When booking, you can choose a Baby Only session or include parents and siblings in your newborn experience.

If you're worried about what everyone will wear, don't be.

I'll help you coordinate your family and you'll have access to my client closet, including beautiful options for mom and siblings.

Simple Pricing. Choose your images after you see them.

I don't believe you should have to decide how many photographs you want before you've even seen them.

Your Reservation Fee secures your session and is applied toward whichever image collection you choose afterward.

After your session, you'll receive a private proof gallery where you can look through your photographs and choose the images you simply can't live without.

Collections begin at $450.

Only the photographs you select receive my full professional retouching.

No guessing ahead of time.

See your baby first. Fall in love with your photographs. Then choose your favorites.

When Should I Book?

The best time to reserve your newborn session is while you're still pregnant, ideally sometime after 20 weeks.

Of course, babies aren't particularly interested in our calendars.

When you reserve your newborn session, you're reserving a place on my schedule around your due date. If baby decides to arrive earlier or later than expected, we'll adjust your session accordingly.

I intentionally accept a limited number of newborns each month so I have the flexibility to accommodate those unpredictable arrival dates.

Newborns are typically photographed during their first few weeks of life, when they're still sleepy, curly and comfortable in those beautiful newborn poses.

Baby already here?

Don't panic.

I occasionally have last-minute availability. Reach out and let me know your baby's age, and we'll determine the best session option for you.

Newborn Photography FAQs & Common Questions

While you prepare for baby's arrival, we want to make sure all of the questions about your upcoming Newborn Photography Session are answered. Here are the most frequently asked questions we hear at Ablaze Photography:

Are you up to date on the Whooping Cough Vaccine?

  • Yes! My staff and I are up to date on TDap and Flu.
  • Your baby's comfort and safety are my #1 priority!
  • I am OBGYN and pediatrician approved.

What is the best age to photograph my new baby?

  • I prefer to photograph newborns between 10-20 days of age, when they are still in that super, sleepy, squishy, curly stage. This is not to say that we can't photograph your baby a bit older, but the ultimate time is in the first week.

Do you have a studio?

  • Yes! I have a professional Newborn Photography Studio located right in the heart of Grand Junction, Colorado at 411 1/2 Main St.
  • Newborn Photography Studio vs. In-Home Sessions- In order to provide the consistent look you see on my website and in my portfolio, Newborn sessions are held in my studio. Everything is fully prepared prior to your arrival. You can enjoy some much-needed rest while I photograph your baby just feet away.

Do you have all the props?

  • Yes! I have everything you see on my website and loads more. My studio has a glamorous collection of high quality, hand made headbands, bonnets, outfit and wraps. I am consistently updating and purchasing new goodies! Your baby's session will be fully styled based on your color preferences, all you have to bring is the baby!

Do you offer sessions on the weekends?

  • No, the Newborn Photography Studio is open by appointment only Monday - Friday 10:00-2:00

How far in advance should I book?

  • It's best to book your session whilst your still pregnant, usually after 20 weeks gestation.

What if my baby comes early or after my due date?

  • By booking your session with Ablaze Photography (paying your deposit), your new baby has priority on my schedule. That means if your baby comes early or late your baby is guaranteed a spot on my calendar. My Newborn Sessions are limited each month to accommodate the various arrival dates.

My baby is already here! Can I still do a Newborn Session?

  • Occasionally, I do have last-minute availability. Please inquire if your baby is a bit older, as this may determine if you want a newborn or baby session.

How long does a Newborn Session take?

  • Full Newborn Sessions take 2-3 hours; this includes extra wiggle room if we need extra feeding and soothing breaks. I firmly believe anything over 3 hours is just too long, too long for the baby and too long for exhausted parents. I'll help you prepare your little one so we can get the very best of baby for the session.

How do I prepare for my session?

  • Once you've booked your session with Ablaze Photography, you'll receive a link via email with tips on how to prepare for a smooth Newborn Session.
